The ASP Katowice design school invited polish designer Agnieszka Mazur and Roxane Lahidji (both recently graduated from DAE) to give a 3days workshop to the product design BA students on the most abundant and key local material : Coal.

Since coal as recently become an obsolete energetic resource for environmental matters, the mining activity in Europe and in this case Poland has gradually dropped over the last centu- ry, turning mines into tourists attractions.

​

After visiting mines and gathering information on polish economy and coal through it history, they invited the students to look beyond the mainstream idea of an energetic resource at approach coal from a different perspective to build their own design narratives and scenarios through successful re- searchs and experiments, from coal and gips terrazzo to bio plastics, tools, handles and even ink.
